Be the Difference
Speeding
Speeding contributes to at least 30% of all road accidents. Even a “little bit” over the limit can have serious consequences.
Less than 10km over will cost you $254, 10-24km is $407 and over 30km is $661. Not including demerit points too.
This year, we encourage every player, parent, coach, and supporter to:
* Take the pledge to drive safely
* Talk to your young drivers about responsible habits
* Support each other in making smarter, safer choices on the road
🛑 Slow down. Be the difference.
🏉 Let’s make safety a part of our game plan.
Distractions
Taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds – to check a message, change a song, or reach for something – can be the difference between arriving safely or not arriving at all.
Did you know that the current penalty for using a mobile phone whist driving is $593 and 4 demerit points.
You can:
- turn your phone to Do Not Disturb
- asking a passenger to help with directions
- set your playlist/maps prior to starting in the car
- keep your phone out of reach when driving (glovebox)
- speak up as a passenger and tell the driver to get off their phone and focus on the road
- every small action helps save lives.
Distraction is a choice. So is driving safely. Let’s choose wisely.
Vehicle Safety
Did you know you can see how safe your car is? Visit this website link and look for 5 stars!
Our roles as parents & guardians doesnt stop once the P plates are in the car. We need to also make sure the cars that our P platers are driving are safe and reliable.
FACT: If everyone upgraded their car to the safest in their class, the number of lives lost would reduce by a third.
Drink Driving
At Rowville Knights, we don’t just talk about teamwork on the field – we live it off the field too. That’s why we’re raising awareness around one of the most preventable risks on our roads: drink driving.
🚫 If you drink, don’t drive.
There’s no safe way to guess if you’re under 0.05. Alcohol affects everyone differently, and many factors are out of your control. The safest choice is the simplest one: separate drinking and driving altogether.
Alcohol absorption is something that you can’t control. Whether it’s a team event, a family celebration, or a night out — plan ahead. Designate a driver. Organise a ride. Stay over. Make the choice that keeps everyone safe.
Driving Tired
Fatigue is one of the biggest killers on our roads. It can be just as dangerous as drink driving – slowing your reaction time, affecting your focus and putting everyone at risk.
If you drive on less than 5 hours sleep,
you are 4 times more likely to crash when
compared to 8 hours of sleep.
Whether it’s a late night before game day, an early morning training run or a long drive home after a match, its important to ask yourself:
Am I really okay to drive?
If you’re feeling drowsy, please:
- delay your drive
- take a 15 min power nap
- pull over for a rest and a coffee to stay on the ball
- plan rest stops (every 2 hours) and change drivers
- avoid driving when you normally sleep
Let’s work together to make sure every trip to and from the game ends safely. 💙
Learner Drivers
Did you know that P plate drivers have a higher incidence of crashes than any other drivers? The only way to minimise this is for our Learner Drivers to get the experience they need.
L plates need 120 hours of supervised driving. Not everyone has access to either a car OR a supervisor to help with this.
One initiative making a real difference is the TAC L2P Program — which helps learner drivers access the supervised driving experience they need to get their licence safely.
Many young drivers, especially those without access to a car or a supervising driver, benefit from this free program that’s helping to shape safer, more confident drivers.
